House of Pots with museum in Žagarė
The Private Museum Puodų namas, founded in the centre of the town by the resident from Žagarė Edmunds Vaičulis is attracting Žagarė tourists like a magnet. The businessman with an artistic soul E. Vaičiulis, who liked collecting various historic things since childhood, bought the house in 1990, where a knitting and weaving factory of Jewish origin was run by Sore Trubikaite in the 19th to the early 20th century; he founded the unique Museum that attracted visitors with its quirkiness; its facade and roof was covered with all sorts of aluminium pots, little milk churns, pans and other old dishes. The yard and inside of the homestead was filled with all sorts of antiques and old things – irons, tea kettles, old weighing devices (Lit. bezmėnas), cameras, oil lamps, bells, millstones, etc. It even houses the wartime aeroplane propellers, an American tank Sherman turret with a gun and other things. The most interesting exhibit is the Tora – the Jewish religion/legal treatise. E. Vaičiūlis is a charismatic artist and a priceless local area and general story storyteller. He not only collects, but also carves from wood. The sculptures created by him decorate the park of Žagarė, and the wooden masks – his own museum.
