St Ignatius of Loyola Chapel in Jakiškiai
The Jakiškiai Cemetery Chapel reflects the wooden folk sacral architecture of the Joniškis region, with its archaic features preserved, and is included in the treasury of Lithuanian wooden architecture. The Chapel, reminiscent of an archaic hut, is unique because of its high, shingled hip roof, its tower decorated with a cross, its impressively decorated arched windows and arched double doors. Next to them is a bowl-shaped stone for water, which bears witness to the blend of Christian and pagan cultures. Its origins can be traced back to the 17th century, when the Jesuit missions were active in the region of Joniškis, which is why it was given the name of the founder of this Jesuit order. The chapel is a monument of sacral architecture (No. 12227).
